SPORTS BOARD
SUNCOAST FOOTBALL; The 2010 football season was
filled up as of April 27. (And you thought you had time)
I just finished stamping 2000 envelopes, the playing
sheets go to the printer soon, and then I will make up the
packets. It is a lot of work –but-it is a lot of fun.

MOOSEHEART FILLERS

Mooseheart was one of the pioneers in the field of vocational training
at the high school level.
Mooseheart High School students today have more than a dozen
occupations from which to choose,
including individually tailored co-op programs with either campus work
functions or area businesses.
The Mooseheart schools are under the supervision of the Department
of Public Instruction, State of Illinois, and are members of the
North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools.
Students graduating from Mooseheart High School receive not only the
regular academic diploma, but also a vocational training certificate.
Mooseheart students are trained in the religious faith which prevailed
in their original home or in which they were baptized, prior to coming to
the "Child City."
Mooseheart has a total acreage of 1,000 acres. Of this total, about
400 acres are occupied by campus buildings, mown athletic and play
fields, and the 23-acre lake. The remainder constitutes Mooseheart
Farm, consisting of the petting zoo, pasture, and cropland.
Mooseheart is a complete community, having its own residences,
schools, church, health center, utilities, and post office. There are more
than 100 buildings and more than 12 miles of paved roads.
Mooseheart Lake has 23 acres of water, with an average depth of
eight feet. It provides boating and fishing facilities for Mooseheart children.
The Mooseheart Student Bank was established in 1928 by a Mooseheart
graduate, the late John C. Meikle, Class of 1920. In 1996, it was
reorganized as the Mooseheart branch of Merchants Bank
(subsequently acquired by Old Kent and then Fifth Third Bank), and now
provides all modern banking
services--in addition to offering a vocational training opportunity to high
school students.
Mooseheart Camp Ross is a 150-acre woodland which provides yearround
camping facilities for
Mooseheart children. It is located near Mount Morris, Ill., which is about
60 miles west of Mooseheart.
The Moose Legion funds the ongoing maintenance and improvements to
this fine facility.
